A Quality Dining Experience

Cozy New England Charm, Since 1704

Nestled in the heart of downtown Cohasset Village, the Red Lion Tavern is the epitome of cozy New England charm. Originally built in 1704, you can feel the history as you step into the quaint Tavern restaurant. With large king pine floors, wooden beams and rustic wood tables, the restaurant harkens back to a time long past. Five working fireplaces add to the already rustic charm on a chilly day.

The Red Lion Tavern infuses classic New England dishes with fresh, modern flavors. From homemade pasta and prime steaks, to fresh salads and locally sourced fish, there is something for everyone at the Tavern — every dish made from the freshest, quality ingredients.

Chef Phil Lewis, Executive Chef of The Red Lion Tavern

Meet Our Chef

Chef Phil Lewis

We are so excited to introduce Phil Lewis, our Executive Chef for the Red Lion Tavern! Lewis is a leader in the restaurant industry, bringing more than 20 years of hospitality and food & beverage experience.

Growing up in Taunton, MA, Lewis's passion for cooking began while watching his grandmother prepare traditional homemade Portuguese meals. Expressing love through food was a shared value in Lewis's family, ultimately leading him to pursue a career in the culinary world.

Lewis completed his formal culinary arts training at The Culinary Institute of America, and following graduation moved to San Francisco to work at Aqua alongside Chef Peter Armellino, who quickly became one of his professional mentors. He then spent 12 years working across New York City's top restaurants, including Alain Ducasse at The Essex House, Gramercy Tavern, and Eleven Madison Park, before returning to Massachusetts to be closer to family.

Now leading the kitchen at the Red Lion Tavern, Lewis puts a signature twist on classic New England cuisine — using local produce to ensure every dish is prepared with the freshest, quality ingredients.

Tour Our Garden

Our “Garden To Table” Approach

Using fresh, quality produce at the Red Lion Tavern is a top priority, which is why we are thrilled to be using produce from our very own vegetable garden on property. Incorporating fresh herbs and colorful produce into our dishes creates a harmony between the garden and our kitchen.

A wide variety of herbs are grown, including fresh basil, purple sage, scallion and parsley. Produce includes beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, green beans, eggplant and cucumber.

Our garden also hosts a flourishing set of first-generation Italian honeybees. An acacia tree blooms on the property, creating an abundant nectar for our bees to carry back to one of five hives. Acacia honey is a special type of honey that is high in antioxidants and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties — 100% pure, with no additives used during the processing phase.
